About The Position

Grand Traverse County is seeking a Health Program Supervisor to coordinate and supervise a health program and staff within an assigned area. This role ensures program compliance with public health statutes, laws, and regulations. The position may require irregular hours and travel using a personal vehicle. Employees must meet minimum requirements and successfully perform all essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field required.
  • If Social Work, Master’s degree required.
  • Two to four years of progressively responsible, directly related experience required.
  • Appropriate licenses and certification as required by program assignment.
  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan or Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant, or fully licensed MSW in the State of Michigan.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance and must maintain eligibility to drive.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Specialized knowledge of personal and/or community health theory and practices.
  • General knowledge and ability to use a personal computer for reports, records, and data compilation.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of basic supervisory and employee management principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable employee rights, protections, and avenues of appeal.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies and procedures governing hiring, employment, and separation.
  • Skill in assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years supervisory experience in a health care environment preferred.
  • Previous management experience with mid-level providers preferred.
  • Experience working with Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health, including Title X Family Planning beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises designated public health staff, including interviewing, selecting, training, overseeing work, and establishing/evaluating performance standards.
  • Plans and administers health service and community outreach programs, including setting priorities, monitoring effectiveness, and developing improvement plans.
  • Reviews potential client eligibility for health programs and makes determinations on program acceptance; performs client assessments.
  • Monitors program compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the review, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines under the supervision of the Director of Community Health and County Health Officer.
  • Prepares staff and programs for mandated evaluations and accreditation reviews; develops corrective action plans.
  • Monitors program caseload and client participation to ensure fiscal soundness and adjusts as appropriate.
  • Provides consultation and recommendations for health programs/referrals and maintains confidential medical and health records.
  • Prepares and monitors program funding and budget, reviews and approves expenditures, and identifies potential financial overruns.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and materials.
  • Assists with researching, writing, and coordinating grants, including monitoring expenditures and preparing reports.
  • Participates in and/or reports to a variety of meetings, committees, professional associations, Boards, and other related groups.
