About The Position

This role provides technical support in health physics dosimetry to monitor workers for radiation exposure. The position involves performing dose calculations for internal and external dosimetry, monitoring exposure trends, and assessing the performance of radiological work using radiological data. The Health Physics (Radiological Engineer) will investigate exposures to determine the nature of potential intakes and likely causes, and assist in developing policies, technical bases documents, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role provides technical guidance for peers and technicians in the TLD and bioassay administration program, utilizes computerized database systems for dose records, and assists with program audits and assessments. Participation in the emergency response team is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline.
  • Eight or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of experience requirements.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE 0 426.2A (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related experience and at least 1-year nuclear experience, or a DOE 0 426.2A alternative).
  • DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.
  • Requires a Q clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
  • This position may be categorized as a “designated position” identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
  • Candidates accepting a job offer will be required to pass a pre-placement physical, drug screening and background investigation.
  • As an employee, you may be required to receive and maintain a security clearance from the United States Department of Energy in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive information or matter.

Nice To Haves

  • Health Physics/Engineering operational experience is preferred.
  • Preference may be given for certification or progress towards certification by the American Board of Health Physics or registration by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists.
