About The Position

This role involves providing radiological technician services within a correctional setting. The technician will perform routine radiologic studies on the inmate population, ensuring patient positioning and minimizing radiation exposure. Responsibilities include operating standard radiographic equipment, adhering to infection control protocols, assisting with patient dismissal and follow-up care, maintaining equipment and supplies, processing and documenting radiologic results, and performing quality assurance procedures. The role also includes serving as a technical consultant, providing training to clinical staff, and completing clerical duties using institutional computer programs.

Requirements

US Citizen
Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
Proof of current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

Performing routine radiologic studies on the inmate population as ordered by appropriate clinicians.
Correctly positioning patients for radiographs and determining the level of radiation intensity to minimize radiation exposure.
Using standard radiographic equipment, including but not limited to systems produced by GE Medical Systems and Kodak.
Accomplishing all procedures within standard infection control protocols.
Assisting in patient dismissal from the clinic upon completion of treatment as well as ensuring follow up care instructions are understood.
Maintaining radiographic equipment through normal procedures including cleaning and sterilizing as well as minor troubleshooting or repairs.
Properly storing and maintaining adequate levels of supplies in assigned rooms.
Ensuring instruments and unapproved items are not left in the clinic during non-patient care hours and that proper storage and security procedures are adhered to, as instructed.
Properly processing and documenting radiologic results into the patient electronic medical record as well as assisting in audits and reviews of records.
Maintaining physical copies of radiologic results as needed and following proper filing and storage guidelines.
Performing and maintaining all necessary procedures and documentation of the quality assurance program as described in the guidelines for penal institutions issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Serving as a technical consultant to clinicians and providing any necessary training to the mid-level practitioners and other clinical staff in the taking of x-rays.
Completing a wide array of clerical and support duties including utilization of institutional-specific computer programs such as SENTRY.
