About The Position

Richmond Middle School is seeking a Health Office Assistant. The ideal candidate will assist the school nurse in maintaining student health records, immunization records, and compliance data. Other duties include greeting health office patients and carrying out tasks as delegated by nurse, assist in ordering health supplies, answer and return phone calls, administer daily medications when needed. Knowledge of PS/SIS electronic charting, childhood immunizations, first aid and ability to triage student office visits are helpful. CPR/first aid certification and minimum of 2 years medical experience required. This school year position is 0.20 FTE, open until filled. This position is governed by the HSS/NEA-NH Union Agreement. Requirements

  • CPR/first aid certification
  • Minimum of 2 years medical experience
  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development
  • Knowledge of specific subject area content as required in the job assignment
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff
  • NH Para-educator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the school nurse in maintaining student health records, immunization records, and compliance data.
  • Greet health office patients.
  • Carry out tasks as delegated by the nurse.
  • Assist in ordering health supplies.
  • Answer and return phone calls.
  • Administer daily medications when needed.
  • Work with students within the classroom environment or other environments within the school setting to assist in completion of lessons and implement goals and objectives.
  • Provide individual and/or small group instructional support as directed by professional staff.
  • Assist substitutes with teacher’s sub plans, class lists, attendance, and photocopying.
  • Assist with clerical duties as assigned.
  • Provide support in the department resource center.
  • Monitor department equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, as requested.
  • Assist teacher(s) in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior or monitoring specific behavior management plans.
  • Accompany students on field trips or to job sites.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and break periods.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Participate in in-service programs, as assigned.
  • Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Recognize that student progress and records are confidential and must be discussed only with appropriate school personnel.
  • Recognize that all communication with parents and other third parties regarding students shall not be the responsibility of the assistant and shall be conducted only by the professional staff.
  • Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
  • Comply with all SAU 70 District policies and building / department rules, procedures, practices and objectives.
