About The Position

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. Works under the general direction of a supervisor to process morbidity reports and perform further epidemiological investigations required in the surveillance practice of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in customer service, health services, education, community outreach, social service industry, or conducting intake interviews, and a high school diploma or possess a GED, OR
  • Two (2) years of experience in customer service, health services, education, community outreach, social service industry, or conducting intake interviews, and an associate degree from an accredited college or university; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Knowledge of medicine and of communicable and infectious disease treatment and control.
  • Awareness of the principles of public health and of the objectives of public health programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work courteously with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to express ideals clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other County’s software applications.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements of automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Successfully complete online CDC assignments, the one-week CDC course “Introduction to STI Intervention,” and “HIV Counseling and Testing” within six months of your employment date.
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials throughout the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and enters positive laboratory reports from the laboratory, clinical providers, and other facilities.
  • Communicates with providers to obtain missing information.
  • Contacts the patient for follow-up and treatment.
  • Performs outreach STI screening/testing activities.
  • Participates in provider and patient education about STIs and their treatment.
  • Conducts medical provider visits to collect reports, to assure the quality of reporting, and to provide new information and assistance.
  • Completes required monthly reports.
  • Conducts field visits, interviews, and partner notifications as they relate to outbreaks and illnesses.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
