About The Position

The HIM Technician serves as primary technical support for the Health Information Manager. This role is crucial in supporting the hospital's operations by ensuring the efficient management of health information. The position involves direct interaction with patients, physicians, and other staff, requiring a high degree of professionalism and adherence to confidentiality standards. The HIM Technician contributes to the overall mission of Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital to provide quality care and make communities healthier.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience as technical office support in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to deal tactfully with, patients, physicians, visitors and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic medical record functions such as filing, release of Information, coordination of transcription, assembly of discharged records and flagging for physician deficiencies.
• Assists Manager with keeping physicians notified of deficiencies and time requirements for completion and assists physicians in the completion process.
• Assists in processing requests for medical record copies.
• Assists nursing staff in keeping records neat and orderly during the patient’s hospitalization.
• Answers phone and assist other departments with health information issues.
• Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all patient information while performing health information duties.
• Performs other related duties and activities as directed and assigned by the Health Information Manager.
