About The Position

Alluvion Health is seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist to join their Revenue Cycle department. This role is crucial for maintaining the accuracy, completeness, organization, accessibility, and security of patient records. The HIM Specialist will work behind the scenes to support providers, staff, patients, and other departments with medical records, documentation, authorizations, and health information needs. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who takes confidentiality seriously and enjoys bringing order to information and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic and paper medical records
  • Scan, index, organize, retrieve, distribute, and securely store patient documentation
  • Process medical record and authorization requests in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy
  • Respond to medical records questions and requests from patients, providers, staff, and outside organizations
  • Enter and update information accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) and other systems
  • Copy, fax, email, and electronically transmit medical documentation as needed
  • Assist with insurance prior authorizations for diagnostic imaging and procedures
  • Support internal and external medical record audits
  • Perform routine compliance checks related to privacy, confidentiality, and documentation standards
  • Help train and support staff with record retrieval, storage, and EHR processes
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Quality, IT, and clinical teams to improve data accuracy and workflows
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining health information systems
  • Support students or interns participating in job-shadowing or practicum experiences
