About The Position

Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is looking for a Health Information Management (HIM) Technician to join our team! In this role, you'll be the behind-the-scenes hero keeping our patient records accurate, secure, and moving — supporting physicians, clinical staff, and the patients who depend on us every day. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient privacy (HIPAA) relative to maintaining medical records required.

  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in health information technology preferred
  • One year of experience working with medical records preferred.
  • Coursework specific to regulations pertaining to proper administration of medical records preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 codes, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and manages health information ensuring quality, accuracy and timely accessibility of patient medical information.
  • Processes release of information requests.
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative chart analysis.
  • Maintains security and privacy of patient records.
  • Provides support to physicians and other disciplines within the organization.
  • Chart review, assembly, and scanning: Collect discharged charts from patient care units. Assemble charts based on established department guidelines. Analyze charts for deficiencies. Communicate with physicians and other clinical staff regarding deficiencies and follow up until complete. Scan completed records into EMR.
  • Release of Information: Process all requests for medical records received by mail, fax, or email according to State and Federal requirements, including HIPAA regulations. Ensure that the release of information is completed properly, timely, and valid.
  • Clerical Support: Assist in answering telephone and taking accurate messages. Assist physicians and other clinical staff as needed. Perform chart audits as requested. Facilitate gathering information needed by the Business Office for TARs
