About The Position

The HIM Clerk performs various HIM functions and responsibilities including processing information for continuity of care, retrieving records from all treatment areas, prepping, and scanning records into SHCIS, and other duties as assigned. Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric sub-specialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a full time Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk to join our team!

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelors in Health Information Management
  • One year healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, physician office, business office and/or customer service
  • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credentialed
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through AHIMA

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve all paper records from all treatment areas (if applicable).
  • Prep, validate and scan paper medical record documents in SHCIS.
  • Meets established accuracy standards for chart processing.
  • Assists in processing internal and external ROI requests as needed.
  • Ensures authorizations for release of health information are HIPAA compliant and releases patient information in accordance with minimum necessary guidelines.
  • Assists in answering department calls and routes to appropriate area.
  • Responding to customer queries in a timely and accurate way, via phone, email, or fax.
