About The Position

Responsible for successful maintenance of patient medical records and organizational and administrative operations of the Medical Record/Health Information Management Department. Is responsible for ensuring medical record regulatory requirements are followed and serves as a resource for the facility in regards to medical record content. Responsible for ensuring the prompt completion, filing and retrieval of medical records.

Requirements

  • Degree as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from an accredited school.
  • Computer experience required in windows, spreadsheet and word processing.
  • Two or more years of previous hospital experience in health information management/medical record functions.
  • Knowledge of DNV standards and state regulations for health information/medical record requirements.
  • Ability to work with hospital management and physicians in an effort to ensure compliance to HIM policy and procedures.
  • Two years management, supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills in writing, verbally, non-verbally and electronically.
  • Demonstrates exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Ability to incorporate strategies to effectively maneuver power and politics in organization.
  • Demonstrated high level of confidence and assertiveness.
  • Demonstrated goal-oriented behavior and is able to effectively plan and execute plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of performance improvement model.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and enforces medical record policies and procedures necessary for effective and efficient processes.
  • Provides leadership to department and to the hospital.
  • Effectively oversees day to day operations of department.
  • Develops appropriate relationships.
  • Gives presentations to management and physicians.
  • Successfully manages physician, employee, interdepartmental and patient satisfaction and/or engagement.
  • Maintains clean and organized environment.
  • Interacts positively with members of medical staff by promoting interaction.
  • Assumes responsibility for a comprehensive departmental orientation program and training to ensure that standards are consistently being met.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing to ensure prompt completion, filling and retrieval of medical record and delegates work effectively.
  • Assumes the responsibility for ensuring and fulfilling the standards and criteria of licensing and accrediting agencies.
  • Holds periodic staff meetings to assure coordination of efforts.
  • Conducts periodic performance reviews on all staff.
  • Represents the hospital in court cases involving subpoena of medical or clinical records.
  • Executes suspension policy for delinquent medical records.
  • Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Attends committee; MEC/CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Applies yearly coding changes.
  • Maintains necessary controls and appropriate reviews of medical coding to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
