About The Position

Responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations of the HIM Department. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: Reviewing medical documentation and assigned medical codes, tracking, processing, and evaluating requests for release of information (ROI), and demonstrating knowledge in HIPAA standards and existing/emerging requirements related to privacy and confidentiality of health information. The role requires following all policies, protocols, and standards of the HIM process and demonstrating the ability to gather data and compile information for report preparation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • Coding Certification Required.
  • Ability to maintain information as highly confidential.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, standards, and regulations affecting health information systems, specifically in behavioral health service areas.
  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Lift up to (30) pounds, exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year administrative experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.
