This role focuses on strengthening the health of communities across Iowa and South Dakota by partnering with communities to create healthier opportunities. The goal is to help all Iowans and South Dakotans live long, healthy lives regardless of their income, education, or background. This involves building relationships, engaging strategic coalitions, and creating alignment to eliminate barriers to optimal health. The Health Improvement Manager will represent Wellmark, improve health outcomes through collaboration, data, and evidence-based action, and understand the dynamics between health systems, insurers, government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations. The ideal candidate is a natural connector with strong business and strategic-level thinking, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to assess viability and needs within health ecosystems. They should be comfortable making connections between organizations and asking insightful questions while balancing empathy with healthy skepticism. This role requires presence, clarity, and confidence to engage stakeholders, hold complex discussions, and represent Wellmark with credibility. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. The position involves a hybrid schedule, with at least 3 days per week in the Des Moines office and 2 days remote, though in-office presence on Mondays/Fridays may be required based on business needs.
