What You’ll Do The Health Teacher is responsible for the development and implementation of the health education program at Pathways and reports to the Director of Special Education. The goal of the health education program is to promote, maintain and improve students’ health by increasing students’ knowledge on how to maintain and improve their overall health, prevent diseases, reduce health related risky behaviors and develop healthy attitudes and skills that address the Rhode Island Health Education Standards in a developmentally appropriate and comprehensive manner. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in education or special education or a related field. All grades Health Educator certification required. Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing instruction and a minimum of two years’ experience individuals diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods. Must have valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and own vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport. Competency Requirements Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities . Ability to modify health education content to meet diverse cognitive, communication, and sensory needs. Proficiency in using visual supports, tactile materials, and assistive technology to enhance learning. Skilled in using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods. Experience working with special educators, therapists, paraprofessionals, and families. Commitment to interdisciplinary planning .
