About The Position

This position is part of the Mental Health Transitional Living Homes Program, created to increase bed capacity for individuals needing residential behavioral health treatment. These beds serve as a step-down option from inpatient care and a step-up when lower-level care settings are no longer adequate. The role involves direct, hands-on milieu management care, assisting clients with daily living activities, documenting care, monitoring psychosocial and physical needs, and engaging in social and recreational activities to support skill development. Services are provided in a residential setting requiring 24/7 care, with shifts including daytime, evening, and overnight, as well as weekends. This is a full-time, in-person, essential services designation position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • One (1) year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
  • Must be QMAP certified within 6 months of hire.
  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • Valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border. Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in psychiatric settings and with direct patient care
  • Able to recognize what a calm milieu looks like and understand how to maintain it
  • Basic understanding of various psychiatric disorders
  • Experience with dealing with clients in crisis, utilizing de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintains awareness of all 1:1, special precautions, and medical and psych issues for each client
  • Understand and practice knowledge of when to report changes in client condition or complaints such as pain or other medical needs to the Provider or Nurse
  • Knowing the 10 rights of Medication Administration, and proper Infection Control practices for passing medications
  • Having a basic understanding of signs and symptoms of adverse effects r/t medications
  • Experience with Google Suite, Google Drive, and Google Docs.
  • Experience with preparing meals for a group, following food safety standards, and diets
  • Relevant years of state service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct client care, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) and continued development of social and life skills through engagement in recreational and social activities.
  • Ensure environmental needs of clients are met by arranging personal care items and adapting the physical environment.
  • Gently guide and instruct clients in self-care activities.
  • Assist clients in orienting to the program, including reviewing program requirements, their responsibilities, and inventorying personal items.
  • Provide ongoing supervision of clients, ensuring their needs are met daily.
  • Monitor client safety, whereabouts, interactions, and conditions, referring to the MHTL Homes team for potential changes.
  • Transport clients to and from appointments and/or recreational and social activities, ensuring safety and adhering to traffic laws.
  • Maintain a schedule of outside client appointments and activities requiring transportation, collaborating with the MHTL Homes team.
  • Ensure trip logs are properly and timely completed.
  • Adhere to department standards and staff development requirements, including MHTL Homes policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete staff training, including MHTL Homes specific training and CDHS mandatory training.
  • Attend assigned meetings and in-services.
  • Ensure all documentation, such as shift notes, incident logs, and temperature logs, are timely and correctly completed.
  • Resource and teach/orient new/pulled/pool staff related to milieu management/safety basics.
  • Administer medications to individuals served in accordance with the Medication Administration Record (MAR), ensuring proper doses and times.
  • Record medication administration, client responses, refusals, and relevant information about clients' mental status.
  • Dispense medication to clients and supervise client self-administration of medications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
