About The Position
The Health and Safety Coordinator provides essential support in maintaining and strengthening Garaventa Lift’s Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) across manufacturing and operations. This role assists the organization in meeting Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence (OSSE) requirements by supporting compliance with WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations, promoting safe work practices, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent practical experience.
- Basic working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Experience or familiarity with workplace inspections and OHS programs (entry-level acceptable).
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
- Well-organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Reliable, proactive, and accountable.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Positive attitude with genuine interest in workplace safety.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a strong asset.
Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance and updates of the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) to align with OSSE standards.
- Assist in monitoring operational activities for compliance with WorkSafeBC and provincial OHS legislation.
- Support the development, review, and updating of OHS documentation, including policies, safe work procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with conducting workplace inspections and internal audits to identify physical and environmental hazards.
- Support incident investigations and near-miss; reviews; help identify and document root causes and corrective actions.
- Assist in tracking enforcement and escalation procedures when safety requirements are not met.
- Assist in developing and delivering safety orientation and training programs for staff.
- Support promotion of a; Safety First; culture through floor presence and engagement with employees on safe practices.
- Assist in creating and distributing safety bulletins, promotional materials, and internal safety communications.
- Support integration of health and safety objectives with LEAN manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
- Assist Garaventa Lift branch locations with safety guidance and standardized initiatives as requested.
- Provide administrative support to Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
