About The Position

The Health and Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in the development, execution, and sustainability of BELFOR’s occupational health and safety programs. With a hands-on approach, you will lead initiatives to reduce risks, investigate incidents, support return-to-work processes, and foster a proactive safety-first culture. You’ll support safe operations at project sites and within our teams every day. Acting as a trusted resource to managers, supervisors, and employees, this role delivers practical solutions to ensure compliance with corporate policies, legal regulations, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or certification in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
  • Self-Starter with the ability to work amongst a remote Health & Safety team
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage diverse teams in safety practices
  • Ability to conduct inspections, analyze safety data, and lead safety investigations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety data management systems
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job sites as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with COR auditing procedures and WCB claims management
  • Experience in construction, restoration, or insurance industry environments is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage employee safety training records and safety data systems
  • Plan and support safety protocols for new project start-ups, including site safety plans and worksite audits
  • Develop and enforce safe work practices in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation
  • Ensure compliance with company-wide safety policies for employees, subcontractors, and clients
  • Manage WCB claims, return-to-work plans, and injury documentation
  • Act as the lead safety liaison for project teams, conducting regular inspections and safety audits
  • Promote accident prevention through health and safety initiatives, trend analysis, and recommendations
  • Prepare and distribute safety reports, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and related documentation
  • Lead or support incident investigations and ensure implementation of corrective actions
  • Collaborate with Health and Safety Committee members to ensure compliance and certification standards
  • Assist with onboarding new hires through health and safety orientations, PPE setup, WHMIS/asbestos training, and respirator fit testing
  • Maintain COR (Certificate of Recognition) status by completing internal audits and supporting external reviews
  • Monitor legislation and industry standards by attending ongoing training, conferences, and updates
  • Operate in accordance with BELFOR’s policies and procedures for a safe work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Safety
