About The Position

Kenowa Hills Public Schools HS Health and Physical Education Teacher POSITION: HS Health / PE Teacher due to Retirement LOCATION: Kenowa Hills High School START DATE/CALENDAR: ASAP SALARY/BENEFITS: As outlined in KHEA Collective Bargaining Agreement SUMMARY: Kenowa Hills High School and Middle School serves students in grades 6–12 with a strong commitment to academic excellence, personal development, and community engagement. Our Health and Physical Education department focuses on empowering students to take responsibility for their own health and well-being through lifelong fitness habits and wellness literacy. We are anticipating an opening at Kenowa Hills High School due to a retirement for the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

• Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (MA/MX) endorsement appropriate for the high school level.
• Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with Health (MA) and/or Physical Education ( MB/MX) endorsements.
• Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices for both gymnasium and classroom health environments.
• Ability to effectively deliver and manage structured programs, including the KISD-provided Health Curriculum and the RefReps Officiating Education system.
• Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
• Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices in a fitness and classroom-based health setting preferred.
• Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
• Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others' identities.
• Ability to establish and enforce safety and management procedures consistent with building and district protocol in large-group settings.
• Prepare course objectives and outlines for Health and PE courses following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Prepare course objectives and outlines following KISD Health curriculum guidelines and RefReps certification requirements.
• Observe and evaluate student physical performance, health literacy, and social development; report to parents as needed and required.
• Prepare gymnasium, weight room, and classroom equipment for daily activities ensuring all safety protocols are met.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of fitness and health education that provides students with opportunities to investigate personal wellness and vocational officiating skills.
• Design and deliver instruction that promotes lifelong fitness, student wellness, and physical literacy, while supporting a range of abilities from foundational movement skills to advanced performance development.
• Use a variety of media, fitness technology, and instructional methods to motivate students to participate and maximize instructional time.
• Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district.
• Must receive clearance from the Michigan State Police Department prior to the offer of employment.

• Experience or background in strength and conditioning or athletic performance development preferred
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CSCS, NASM-CPT, ACE-CPT, or equivalent) or equivalent) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver personalized, student-centered instruction utilizing Capturing Kids’ Hearts and Restorative Practices.
• Adapt physical activities and KISD instructional materials to meet students’ varying physical abilities, needs, and interests.
• Establish clear learning targets for all fitness units, health projects, and assessments and communicate those to the students.
• Establish clear learning targets for RefReps officiating units and KISD health projects, and communicate those to the students.
• Assign and grade health coursework and physical fitness assessments, adhering to building and district protocols.
• Prepare and administer tests and physical skills assessments to evaluate students’ progress toward Michigan Merit Curriculum standards.
• Collaborate with other professional staff and KISD consultants to enhance instruction and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs (IEPs/504s).
• Participate in K-12 Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and staff meetings to analyze data and improve student outcomes.
• Actively participate in the district’s teacher evaluation process and fulfill all state-mandated effectiveness reporting.
