About The Position

Health Aides work closely with the Health Care Manager/Camp Nurse to support the health and safety of our campers. Basic job functions include assisting in the management of the Health Center, maintains the health of campers and staff and properly packing medication for overnight trips. Nursing or pre-nursing students preferred. Health Aides are supervised by the Health Care Manager.

Requirements

  • 18 years old or older
  • 1-2 years of experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, nannying, coaching
  • 1+ years of experience leading others as a supervisor or lead
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing group activities
  • Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping, and swimming.
  • All employees and volunteers are responsible for adhering to abuse prevention policies, maintaining appropriate boundaries, completing required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and complying with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.

  • Nursing or pre-nursing students preferred.
  • Previous camp experience preferred
  • Current state approved first aid certification
  • Current state approved CPR certification
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Current Wilderness First Responder strongly preferred.
  • Documented knowledge of challenge courses and current safety standards and practices
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.

Responsibilities

  • Help the nurse ensure that each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required.
  • Assist in the health screening at the beginning of each session.
  • Assist the nurse in conducting an inventory of supplies.
  • Follow appropriate medical routines including recordkeeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
  • Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk management assessment.
  • Assist in monitoring health of all staff including kitchen staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the nurse.
