About The Position

This position is for a Head Wrestling Coach responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Girls and Boys Wrestling Program, including tryouts, practices, and games. The coach will develop and execute an effective training program, motivate and mentor student-athletes, and instruct them in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training. A key aspect of the role is to guide student-athletes in developing moral values, pride, social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence, while fostering teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and skills development. The coach must ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes, cooperate with school athletic administration, and meet all mandated requirements from the District Board of Education, OHSAA, and ODE. This includes completing required training and certifications, checking academic eligibility, and adhering to district policies. The coach is expected to model appropriate behavior, maintain suitable sideline conduct, and be open to constructive criticism. They must be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies and provide clear training rules. Participation in clinics and school events is also expected, along with maintaining equipment inventory.

Requirements

  • Fundraising experience.
  • Strong knowledge of wrestling rules and techniques.
  • Must be passionate and dedicated to inspire student-athletes.
  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Serve as a positive role model.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with the sport.
  • Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience coaching wrestling preferred.
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the High School and/or College level desired.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Girls and Boys Wrestling Program including tryouts, practices, and games.
  • Develop and execute an effective training program.
  • Motivate and mentor student-athletes on and off the Mat.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
  • Foster teamwork, discipline, respect, sportsmanship, and skills development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Cooperate, in a timely manner, with School Athletic Director and the District Athletic Department in regard to requests for information that might be pertinent and/or periodically required.
  • Meet all the requirements mandated by the District Board of Education, The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/ Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
  • Follow the District Athletic Department Policies as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices and games, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
  • Maintain a suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Recognize the need to be aware of, and implement, all applicable administrative polices set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, ODE, and OHSAA.
  • Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to student-athletes prior to the start of the season.
  • Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
  • Participate in Clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School events (i.e., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring that team is well-prepared for opponents.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
