About The Position

Marymount School of New York seeks a Head Varsity Girls' Tennis Coach to lead our Upper School tennis program. We welcome candidates with experience in scholastic, collegiate, club, academy, USTA, and private coaching environments who are passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the court. The ideal candidate builds strong relationships with student-athletes and colleagues, fosters a positive and inclusive team culture, and teaches the technical, tactical, and competitive skills necessary for success within the AAIS and NYSAIS athletic landscape. The season begins with tryouts on August 20–21, 2026, followed by a five-day preseason training camp from August 24–28, local preseason practices from August 31–September 3, and concludes on or before November 9, 2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of relevant coaching experience
  • Previous high school, collegiate, USTA, academy, club, or private coaching experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to teach tennis fundamentals and advanced techniques, develop players of varying skill levels, and implement effective singles and doubles strategies
  • Experience planning and leading practices, managing lineups, and coaching athletes in competitive match environments
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to build a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture while fostering sportsmanship and personal growth
  • Commitment to supporting the educational mission of the school and providing an exceptional student-athlete experience
  • Current CPR/AED certification, concussion education training, and SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season)

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the varsity tennis program, including practice planning, match management, player development, and team culture.
  • Attend and coach all practices and matches; typical weekday practices are held between 3:00–6:30 p.m.
  • Design and implement training sessions focused on technical skill development, singles and doubles strategy, match preparation, and competitive excellence.
  • Oversee daily program logistics, including match scheduling, travel coordination, equipment management, uniforms, and facility use.
  • Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with program goals and departmental expectations.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities, including attendance, roster management, score reporting, communication with families, and team events.
  • Uphold Marymount's mission and athletic department policies while ensuring compliance with AAIS/NYSAIS rules and sportsmanship standards.
  • Communicate proactively with the Athletics Office regarding injuries, student support needs, facilities, scheduling, and other program matters.
