About The Position

Porter-Gaud School is seeking a Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 School Year. This role is committed to developing the whole student-athlete, focusing on mind, body, and spirit. The ideal candidate will integrate coaching with classroom principles, using basketball to teach leadership, resilience, accountability, and teamwork. The program should reflect the school's core values while striving for competitive excellence. The coach will foster a program culture grounded in character, commitment, and respect, and will mentor student-athletes in their personal, academic, and athletic development. This position involves organizing and managing all aspects of the program, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and staffing, while promoting a positive and inclusive environment. Collaboration with colleagues and modeling integrity, sportsmanship, and respect are key aspects of the role. The coach will also assist with game and practice preparation, facility readiness, and oversee the Girls Basketball budget.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Significant basketball coaching experience required, preferably at the high school or collegiate level and within an independent school setting
Continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills necessary to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Ability to contribute to an inclusive and equitable community where all individuals feel a sense of belonging.

Responsibilities

Lead the Varsity Girls Basketball program in alignment with the mission and values of Porter-Gaud School and its athletic department.
Cultivate a program culture grounded in character, commitment, and respect, where student-athletes are challenged to grow both on and off the court.
Oversee and support program alignment from Varsity through sub-varsity levels, fostering continuity and growth.
Build meaningful relationships with student-athletes, mentoring them in their personal, academic, and athletic development.
Communicate consistently and thoughtfully with players and families regarding schedules, expectations, and program philosophy.
Organize and manage all aspects of the program, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and staffing.
Promote a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, supports multi-sport athletes, and reflects the values of the Porter-Gaud community.
Collaborate with colleagues across the athletic department and school to support the broader student experience.
Model integrity, sportsmanship, and respect in all interactions, representing Porter-Gaud with pride.
Assist in game and practice court preparation and overall facility readiness.
Oversee Girls Basketball budget in coordination with the Director of Athletics and ordering of uniforms, equipment, and program inventory.
Perform other duties as assigned.
