About The Position

This supplemental coaching position is for the Head Varsity Boys Track position at Harding, Range II, for the 2026-2027 Spring Season. The role involves leading, promoting, and facilitating student athletes to achieve their maximum potential by instilling ethical values, teamwork, and a winning attitude. The coach will organize and coordinate practices and meetings, utilizing assistants and available resources to teach the fundamentals of track and field.

Requirements

PASP – Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit issued by The Ohio Department of Education, which includes: -Fundamentals of Coaching -Concussion Education -Valid CPR Certification -First Aide/Health Safety
A thorough knowledge of the sport / activity that is being taught.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training – Lindsey’s Law
An extensive knowledge and background of the sport that he / she is coaching.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Effective, active listening skills.
Organizational and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Interacts in a positive manner with staff, parents and students.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
Adhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed Educators.
Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
Be able to use athletic software.

Responsibilities

Lead, promote, and facilitate student athletes to achieve maximum potential in the chosen activity/sport by instilling ethical values, teamwork, and a winning attitude.
Organize and coordinate practices and meetings by utilizing assistants and all available resources to promote and teach the fundamentals of the activity/sport.
Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment.
Respond appropriately to crisis situations (i.e. emergencies, employee/parent concerns).
Ensure the safety of students.
Set a good moral and ethical example for athletes, the student body, and community.
Work cooperatively with the Athletic Boosters to better the athletic program.
Follow the athletic policy so there will be consistency in dealing with athletes in a fair and firm manner.
Conduct oneself in an ethical manner during contests and practices.
Set up practice schedules.
Notify parents of athlete(s) needing medical attention, refer for a physical and keep records of injury.
Responsible for all equipment and inventory in conjunction with the athletic director.
Responsible for handing out, collecting, cleaning and storage of equipment.
Assist in setting up itineraries and bus schedule for away games.
Be present at all practices and contests or have a designated coach in charge until all players have left the field or building.
Cooperate with other sports/coaches to develop a total athletic program.
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
Work cooperatively with the teaching staff, administration and parents.
Support the philosophy of the varsity level programs.
Assign responsibilities to trainers and managers.
Submit required lists and reports (roster for eligibility and for programs) to the athletic director in a timely manner with all required information.
Completely discuss procedures and responsibilities with all assistant coaches.
Assist in planning special events such as pep assemblies, homecoming, and parent's night.
Make decisions on all athletic awards and conduct player voting for awards required.
Inform all athletes of their rights and procedures if they are denied participation or dismissed from the squad.
Keep abreast of new techniques and innovations by attending clinics and reading material.
Be able to assist and attend Athletic Boosters and Athletic Council meetings, if needed.
Promote the program to the parents, community, and students.
Organize and plan awards programs for your sport.
Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of assistant coaches for the middle school.
Establish a communications system to athletes and parents from elementary to varsity levels.
Assist in the collection of required student athlete forms, pay-to-participate fees, etc.
Assist the athletic director in the evaluation of assistant coaches.
Assist athletic director in scheduling contests.
Maintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as required.
