About The Position

Avenues is seeking a Head Teacher for Chinese immersion in grades 1–5 of the Lower Division. Students alternate days between English and target-language classrooms, and English and Chinese teachers share responsibility for two classes of students. Teacher teams collaborate daily to plan lessons and discuss student progress, and also meet weekly with grade-level and language colleagues. The Head Teacher will work intensively with Chinese and English colleagues to design learning outcomes, monitor student growth, and address individual needs. The role involves designing and teaching an innovative, challenging curriculum that develops real-world problem-solving skills and social responsibility, using varied instructional practices informed by formal and informal assessments. The teacher will build respectful relationships with students, colleagues, and parents; foster a safe, welcoming, rigorous, and joyful learning community; and, for grades 1 and 2, partner with and mentor an associate teacher. Avenues describes its school as a collaborative, creative, and entrepreneurial learning environment, with state-of-the-art technology and a diverse community of colleagues. The school emphasizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and the physical and emotional well-being of children. Offers are contingent on successful reference and background checks.
