About The Position

Incumbent provides for the establishment, maintenance, and management of classroom activities and providing those services necessary to meet the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards. This role involves maintaining confidentiality, respecting and observing children's interests, intervening when needed for safety, enhancing children's play with language, toys, and activities, and communicating directly with each child at their level. The teacher will engage and communicate constructively with individual children during activities and routines, taking every opportunity to positively extend children's thinking and actions. They will stay responsive to children's needs, questions, and requests, encouraging and modeling social behavior and expectations that are developmentally appropriate. The role requires acknowledging feelings with sensitivity and demonstrating appropriate expression of emotions, practicing positive discipline techniques according to NAEYC, Bright from the Start, and Caring for our Children Basics. The teacher will stay attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and their families during transitions to and from classrooms. Responsibilities include implementing daily lesson plans and schedules, recording observations in Teaching Strategies GOLD, and organizing and maintaining learning centers within the classroom. The role also involves recruiting volunteers and soliciting in-kind contributions, attending required meetings, trainings, and workshops, and maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms and adjoining restrooms. The teacher will serve as an advocate for the Head Start Program, families, and children, implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that reflects observations and assessments of individual children and goals jointly developed with parents/guardians. Further duties include maintaining order through positive behavior management, completing mandated screening and assessments of children, daily health and anecdotal observations of children, and performing Home Visits and Parent Teacher Conferences a minimum of twice a year. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Associate’s Degree (for HS Teacher I)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Bachelor’s Degree (for HS Teacher II)
  • Master’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Master’s Degree (for HS Teacher III)
  • One to three years of experience (for HS Teacher II)
  • BA/emphasis on infant & toddler development - $19.36
  • MA/emphasis on infant & toddler development - $20.09
