About The Position

Head Start Early Childhood Education Assistant Teachers will work within the UW Oshkosh Head Start program, a federally funded preschool program for low-income families. Each position works collaboratively to develop skills and practices to support school readiness for each child and to support comprehensive services offered to each child and family. Classroom sizes are 15-16 children. The school year runs from September to May/early June, with additional August work hours for staff. The program embraces the High/Scope curriculum, offers many professional development opportunities, and implements Pyramid Model and Conscious Discipline programs to support social/emotional development. Head Start employees have the opportunity to work with 384 children and their families every school year across seven centers in five different cities throughout Winnebago, Calumet, Outagamie, and Shawano Counties. Staff wellness is prioritized through available individual/group reflective practice, Practice Based Coaching, and wellness initiatives.

Requirements

  • Completed or current enrollment in an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education program or a Preschool Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). If currently enrolled in either program they must be successfully completed within 9 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom
  • Assists with basic technical and administrative classroom support
  • Documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
  • Updates and organizes individualized and developmental educational plans for children
  • Assists with the planning and facilitation of classroom programming and classroom coordination and organization for an early childhood education facility according to established curriculums
