About The Position

Head Start Early Childhood Education Assistants and Substitute Teachers will work within the UW Oshkosh Head Start program, a federally funded preschool program for low-income families. This position is expected to collaborate with full-time teachers and teacher assistants to support children’s school readiness. They will also assist with center responsibilities to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Head Start employees have the opportunity to work with 384 children and their families every school year across seven centers in five different cities throughout Winnebago, Calumet, Outagamie, and Shawano Counties. Staff wellness is prioritized through available individual/group reflective practice, Practice Based Coaching, and wellness initiatives. Head Start supports staff to complete required coursework to meet requirements. Child Development Associate (CDA) training and support is provided, which may lead to certification and possible advancement in our program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to take written and verbal instruction

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children at all times and in all environments
  • Engages in collaborative partnership building with children, staff, and parents to identify goals, strengths, necessary services, and other support
  • Implements individualized and developmental educational plans for children
  • Assists with early childhood education related tasks
