About The Position

West Central Community Action is seeking Classroom Substitutes for all WCCA Head Start Classroom locations in Iowa (Harlan, Denison, Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Mapleton, Hastings, and Red Oak). The primary responsibility is to provide coverage in classrooms with little notice to ensure optimal services for children and families. This role operates in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and State of Iowa Licensing Codes. Substitutes must be able to work with children aged 6 weeks to 5 years and families from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

• High School/GED is required.
• Must have the ability to work with children and families from various cultural, economic & social backgrounds.
• Must have a current and valid driver's license.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• Must have auto liability insurance.

Nice To Haves

• An associate's degree in early childhood education is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cover duties where coverage is lacking to optimize services to children and families with little notice.
• Work with children and families from various cultural, economic & social backgrounds.
• Participate in and support all program activities.
• Follow written Code of Conduct, WCCA Policies & Procedures, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards at all times.
• Advocate and recruit for all WCCA Programs including Head Start and its clientele.
• Assist in keeping accurate attendance, nutrition, in-line and other records/reports as needed.
• Complete Iowa Mandatory Reporter training for Child Abuse and make good faith reports regarding suspected abuse to DHS as needed.
• Attend scheduled pre-service and professional development training days as directed.
