About The Position

The Head Softball Coach is responsible for coaching, management and administration of all phases of the East Texas A&M University Softball program and team within the guidelines, rules and regulations of the University, Southland Conference (SLC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five (5) years demonstrated successful experience in playing and/or coaching at the collegiate, university or professional level.
  • Division I or II experience with fundraising initiatives.
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student-athletes academically and athletically.
  • Knowledge and experience with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to travel and work on nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Three to five years collegiate coaching experience including effective leadership, communication, coaching and recruiting skills is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Scouts and recruits quality student-athletes.
  • Coordinates recruiting activities with the Athletic Director or designated sport supervisor.
  • Develops working relationships with faculty and university staff to assist in the recruiting process.
  • Responsible for the search, selection and training of qualified assistant coaches with the approval of the Athletic Director in accordance with all University, personnel and action programs and procedures.
  • Directs and manages assistant coaches.
  • Conducts annual coaching staff evaluations and recommends merit increases to the Athletic Director.
  • Trains and coaches the members of the Softball program.
  • Organizes and schedules practice sessions and games with approval of the Athletic Director.
  • Manages field care and maintenance.
  • Uses working knowledge of skills to prepare game and practice plans to benefit the growth of the student-athletes.
  • Assists and encourages student-athletes in pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
  • Oversees the academic progress of the student-athlete in conjunction with the academic advisor.
  • Counsels all student-athletes as needed in academic, disciplinary and personal matters.
  • Presents annual budget requirements to the Athletic Director and is accountable for expense control compliance and administration of the Softball program.
  • Participates in East Texas A&M University public relations activities including print, television and radio interviews and news conferences as requested.
  • Assists in fundraising efforts for the athletic program and generates additional funds for support of the program.
  • Represents East Texas A&M University in professional, civic, charity and alumni events.
  • Reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines.
