About The Position

Newmedica, part of the Specsavers group, is a leading provider of NHS ophthalmology services in England, offering outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing, and eye surgery. The Head of Projects and Planning role is a remote position with travel requirements to Newmedica offices and clinics. This role reports to the Commercial Director and is responsible for developing and executing business planning processes, overseeing performance, supporting strategy development, and embedding project management best practices. The position involves leading the creation and governance of long-term and annual plans, ensuring strategic priorities are translated into actionable initiatives, and monitoring progress. The role requires close collaboration with senior stakeholders to maintain visibility of projects, manage risks, and ensure focus on high-impact activities.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading and supporting senior teams with planning and delivery of commitments.
  • Experience in developing effective planning and reporting frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of project management processes, governance, and full project lifecycles.
  • Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders across multiple functions and geographies.
  • Ability to influence and challenge constructively to achieve the right outcomes.
  • Strong leadership experience, including leading multi-disciplinary and multi-regional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development of long-term and annual plans, ensuring alignment across functions and maintaining effective governance processes.
  • Provide oversight of the project portfolio, ensuring projects are appropriately prioritized, governed, and reported on.
  • Support teams in adopting consistent project management approaches and best practices.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including Board level, providing challenge, support, and guidance.
  • Lead selected strategic programs and projects, establishing clear governance, managing dependencies and risks.
  • Ensure teams remain focused on achieving business objectives.
  • Lead and develop a small team, creating an environment where people can thrive, grow, and deliver their best work.
