About The Position

Alternative Payments is building a financial operating system for service-based SMBs, starting with managed service providers. After five years focused on accounts receivable, the company is expanding into accounts payable, AI-powered analytics, and broader financial workflows. The Head of Product will own the product vision across this growing platform and guide the development of a coherent experience connecting data, AI, and payments. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on, cross-functional work. The Head of Product will shape product strategy, manage and develop product managers and designers, strengthen the team’s technical rigor, and establish effective practices for product discovery, prioritization, documentation, and collaboration. The position is available to candidates eligible to work in New York or Toronto, in a hybrid setting.

Requirements

  • Meaningful experience in financial technology, such as payments, lending, or money movement, or in vertical SaaS with a large payments revenue contribution.
  • Proven experience managing product managers and designers across a multi-product portfolio.
  • Technical ability to read system design documents, challenge engineering estimates, and help product managers write PRDs trusted by engineering teams.
  • Ability to explain how AI has been implemented as a product capability, beyond team tooling.
  • Familiarity with embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent-based architectures sufficient to establish credibility with engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear strategy documents and lead effective leadership reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing design across an organization, including product design, marketing design, and sales collateral.
  • Experience transitioning product ownership from a founder and navigating the associated trust-building and handover.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment with an evolving roadmap.

  • Manage and grow a team of product managers and product designers, overseeing product design scope across the organization.
  • Work with product managers to improve PRDs and technical rigor, and bridge product and engineering when needed.
  • Define and own the company’s future product vision, combining market signals, customer insights, and company strategy into a coherent roadmap.
  • Implement AI across the product organization as both a workflow capability and a source of product value for partners.
  • Establish product-team best practices for discovery, prioritization, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Benefits
