Head of Operations and Strategy

Nirvana Insurance
•$280,000 - $370,000

About The Position

Nirvana is hiring a Head of Strategy & Operations to connect the company’s strategic direction with how it operates and executes. The role leads an approximately 15-person organization spanning Business Operations, Marketing, Safety, and core Insurance Operations, and participates in the executive leadership team. Reporting to the GM of the Insurance business, the Head of Strategy & Operations shapes company priorities, operating cadences, and cross-functional initiatives, and has exposure to business-wide and executive-level decisions. The position combines strategic planning and hands-on operational leadership. It owns planning and performance management, advises on partnerships and growth opportunities, establishes leadership and business-review rhythms, and builds operational infrastructure that supports scale. The role also leads efforts to replace manual workflows with AI and automation, improve marketing and safety programs, and develop reporting and communication systems that provide clear visibility into performance. The successful candidate brings substantial experience spanning strategy and execution, strong analytical and financial skills, a record of leading multi-functional teams, and the judgment to prioritize in an ambiguous, fast-growing environment. Nirvana describes the role as an opportunity to lead a meaningful organization and shape how the company operates as it grows.

Requirements

  • 10–15+ years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, or a GM-type role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across the full strategy-to-execution arc, including setting direction and building teams and processes to deliver it.
  • Strong analytical skills, including fluency in financial modeling, unit economics, and data-driven decision-making; ability to interrogate a P&L, build a business case, and identify inconsistencies in the numbers.
  • Experience leading and developing teams of 10–20+ people across multiple functions, including hiring, giving direct feedback, maintaining a high talent bar, and creating an environment where strong people want to stay.
  • Strong, tested views on designing operating cadences, planning rhythms, and accountability systems that drive behavioral change.
  • Executive presence and exceptional written communication; ability to run board preparation, write decision memos, and present to partners.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and sound judgment in prioritizing among competing needs.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years at a high-growth company building operating infrastructure from early stage through scale.
  • Insurance or insurtech experience, particularly in P&C, commercial auto, or MGA operations.
  • Management consulting background (MBB or equivalent) or corporate development experience.
  • Experience building or deploying AI or automation in operational workflows.

  • Identify effective practices across business units and build mechanisms to transfer those learnings.
  • Evaluate new growth opportunities, including markets, adjacencies, and distribution strategies, and develop business cases for go/no-go decisions.
  • Own operating cadences, including weekly leadership meetings, monthly business reviews, quarterly planning, and board preparation.
  • Lead the Business Operations function and build the systems, processes, reporting, and tooling needed to scale programs without linear headcount growth.
  • Identify manual work suitable for AI agents and automation, prioritize development, and measure results.
  • Build and continually improve the Marketing function, including demand generation, brand, content, and go-to-market enablement, connecting growth strategy to measurable pipeline outcomes.
  • Lead and scale safety programs and interventions that help fleets make better decisions using Nirvana’s insights.
