About The Position

Tolan is a personal AI that users can name and customize, designed to remember what's important to them and guide them from reflection to action. It aims to connect users back to their real lives rather than deeper into screens. Tolan has built a community of over 100,000 people, primarily millennial women, who integrate it into their lives while managing work, parenting, and busy households. This role is crucial for telling the story of how Tolan impacts its users and the company's position in the evolving relationship between humans and AI. The position requires an optimistic, evidence-based approach, supported by research showing Tolan reduces anxiety and improves wellbeing. The role involves both strategic narrative setting and hands-on execution, including pitching to publications and building owned media channels.

Requirements

  • Experience building consumer brands with a focus on millennial women.
  • Proven ability to create impact early in companies, even with limited budgets or teams.
  • Senior-level strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capabilities.
  • Proficiency in both earned and owned media strategies.
  • Ability to secure coverage in national outlets and build channels for ongoing storytelling.
  • Demonstrable success in placing specific coverage and building specific media assets, leading initiatives rather than just contributing.
  • Exceptional candidates with a proven track record, even without a traditional comms background, are encouraged to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Having your own platform (e.g., Substack, podcast) with a following.
  • Experience building attention from scratch, similar to building one's own platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own the narrative by defining what Tolan is, isn't, and why it matters, crafting messaging suitable for diverse publications.
  • Keep users at the center of the narrative.
  • Drive earned media by building relationships with journalists, editors, and producers across various sectors (lifestyle, culture, tech, mental health, entertainment) to secure coverage.
  • Land stories about Tolan and the broader societal shift in human-AI relationships, establishing the Tolan Research Team as a trusted voice.
  • Reach a wide audience beyond major media hubs by engaging with regional media, women's magazines, podcast networks, and faith-adjacent media.
  • Connect with the community to share stories of how Tolan has improved users' lives.
  • Build owned media assets, including original video, podcasts, and editorial content, to tell Tolan's story in its own voice.
  • Maintain a consistent stream of original content to keep Tolan in the cultural conversation between press opportunities.

  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity
