About The Position

Compco, a prominent fire engineering business with over 35 years of operation, has recently become part of the global APi Group Corporation, a major player in fire and life safety. This acquisition presents a significant opportunity for growth and modernization. The Head of Finance will lead the finance function through this new chapter, managing an established Accounts Team and overseeing a blue-chip client portfolio. This role offers the chance to shape strategy, drive efficiencies, and influence business decisions within a supportive global infrastructure, moving from a standalone SME to a part of a large, international group.

Requirements

This is a construction contracting-environment role, that's non-negotiable.
A qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA)
Genuinely fluent in invoice alterations, applications for payment and valuations on live jobs
Genuinely fluent in cash flow management through the peaks and troughs of project-based billing
Genuinely fluent in credit control across a contracts client base, retentions, terms, the lot
Sharp commercial instincts
The confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders
A track record of actually leading a finance team within construction, not just managing one.

Responsibilities

Owning financial strategy and driving it forward as the business scales
Leading, developing and growing the Accounts Team
Delivering the reporting, forecasting and risk analysis that shapes real decisions
Running the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle
Taking full ownership of cash flow planning and management
Managing external audit relationships and internal controls
Interrogating and improving product costing
Driving automation, standardisation and simplification across finance
Keeping monthly closing processes sharp, accurate and on time
Partnering across the business as the commercial voice in the room
Leading the evolution of finance systems and reporting capability
