About The Position

As a Head of Environmental Management North America, you will be responsible for developing and implementing regional environmental strategies and programs that ensure the well-being of employees, visitors, and contractors. This role ensures compliance with all North American regulations to prevent risk (financial and otherwise) to the company. This position is also responsible to drive improvements in key HSE performance indicators and drive cost reduction programs to improve the company’s financial position with respect to environmental costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health/science, Safety, Chemistry, Biology, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Very good knowledge of occupational health, safety, fire, and environmental protection regulations (national -US and international Mexico, Canada)
  • Expertise in HSE principles and methods, as well as in HSE performance management

  • 8+ years of related experience preferred of Environmental and safety management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage MAHLE North America remediation efforts and liability reduction programs.
  • Hire and direct third party consulting experts and work with regulatory agencies to meet regulatory goals and timing for remediation.
  • Meet with BU leadership on the progress of the reductions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate environmental regulations for all locations within North America.
  • Develop the overall strategy of continuous improvement for MAHLE’s environmental programs throughout all North America locations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments for federal, state and local areas, as well as corporate policies to determine applicability and required notification of changes to compliance obligations to impacted sites.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the implementation of and compliance with processes, standards, and systems at North American locations, including conducting audits.
  • Risk assessment and risk prevention in environmental protection, occupational safety, and sustainability in production environment incl. machine safety, LOTO.
  • Maintaining and further developing the integrated management systems in accordance with relevant standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001), including tracking nonconformities and coordinating the activities of external service providers.
  • Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support for MAHLE's North American management teams (including any acquisitions) on regulatory environmental compliance issues.
  • Collaborating with government agencies and other external institutions, as well as internal company committees at all functional levels.
  • Work in coordination with internal MAHLE departments such as purchasing, finance, and legal to limit liability and cost to the company.
