•$205,000 - $230,000•Remote

About The Position

WellTheory is hiring its first Head of Engineering to lead a largely self-directed engineering team and establish the company’s engineering processes, quality standards, technical direction, and hiring approach. This is a player-coach role: approximately 20–30% of the time is spent working in the codebase, with the remainder focused on team leadership, platform development, and collaboration with product, design, and company leadership. The role reports to the Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer. WellTheory is a Series A digital health company with a team of 60+ people. Its technology includes a member app, internal tools for its Care Team, and insurance and data infrastructure connecting the company with employers, health plans, and channel partners. Systems are built with HIPAA and SOC 2 Type 2 in mind. The Head of Engineering will help the company scale while maintaining engineering velocity, reliability, security, and compliance. The role is US-based, fully remote, requires access to protected health information, and requires current US work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available.

  • Own the platform and DevOps roadmap, including non-production environments that keep protected health information out of day-to-day development.
  • Partner with operations and compliance leads on engineering aspects of HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST.
  • Make AI a core part of engineering by rolling out coding agents, evaluations, and internal tools.
  • Stay hands-on through code review, pairing on difficult problems, and shipping when appropriate.
