Head of Engineering

Flock Homes•Denver, CO
•$250,000 - $300,000•Onsite

About The Position

Flock Homes is hiring a Head of Engineering to build Flock Homes 2.0 while scaling its existing platform. The role leads engineering across people, roadmap, architecture, sprints, and hands-on coding. Because the team has no product manager, the Head of Engineering will translate business vision into product direction, manage requirements, and decide what should—and should not—be built. This is a player-coach role with a stated path to CTO for the person who earns it. Over the first 12 to 18 months, the role will scale the core exchange fund infrastructure to support five to ten times current funnel volume without a proportionate increase in headcount; adapt existing infrastructure for new exchange funds and vehicles; build products and integrations for distribution through financial advisors and custodial platforms; and run fast go-to-market experiments. The Head of Engineering will work directly with the CEO, COO, acquisitions, investor relations, and operations. Flock expects the successful candidate to work in person at the office five days a week. The position offers a base salary of $250,000 to $300,000, variable compensation tied to business metrics, and equity, along with medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k), and paid time off.

Requirements

  • Has led engineers at a growth-stage fintech or financial infrastructure company and is ready to lead engineering.
  • Has written meaningful production code within the last year and wants to remain hands-on.
  • Has shipped software where correctness mattered, such as payments, lending, brokerage, or infrastructure.
  • Frames problems before solving them and encourages others to do the same.
  • Has opinions about what should be built and conviction to argue for them, including with the CEO and COO.
  • Remains calm under pressure and shields the team from noise while keeping them informed.
  • Is comfortable taking on product management, architecture, and senior engineering work.
  • Wants to work in person with the team in an office five days a week.

  • Leverage, replicate, and refine infrastructure to support new exchange funds and vehicles, including those for specific regions or asset classes.
  • Build custom products and integrations for distribution through financial advisors and custodial platforms.
  • Run fast go-to-market experiments, measuring results and closing out experiments that do not work.
  • Work directly with the CEO, COO, acquisitions, investor relations, and operations.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary of $250,000 to $300,000 per year, depending on experience and role scope.
  • Variable compensation tied to business metrics.
  • Meaningful new-hire stock option grant with standard four-year vesting and a one-year cliff.
  • Promotion grants, including upon promotion to CTO, and refresh grants every two years.
  • Medical coverage.
  • Dental coverage.
  • Vision coverage.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid time off.
