About The Position

Anthropic's community includes developers building products, individual Claude users, and practitioners and buyers within enterprise accounts. The company is seeking a Head of Community to transform existing programs into a function that empowers millions to develop skills with Claude, thereby measurably increasing user retention and product adoption. This role will lead and expand a global team responsible for ambassador programs, regional community leads, and enterprise champion programs. The Head of Community will establish a clear operating model and a measurement framework to align initiatives with business outcomes, ensuring users maximize their benefit from Claude. The role involves fostering community across diverse audiences, seniority levels, functions, and roles, including enterprise buyers, executive sponsors, developers, technical practitioners, and knowledge workers. This position operates at the intersection of Product, Sales, PMM, Brand, and Comms.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and leading a community or customer advocacy function where community served as a growth lever, demonstrated by measurable retention, adoption, or expansion outcomes.
  • Experience leading and developing a distributed team of program owners and regional leads accountable for commercial impact.
  • Ability to think naturally in terms of funnels and segments, and comfort with being accountable for metrics in QBRs.
  • Experience connecting self-serve, bottom-up adoption within large accounts to enterprise expansion, with a clear understanding of community's role in this motion.
  • Ability to adapt playbooks for diverse audiences, including technical developer communities and enterprise executive buyers.
  • Experience operating as an integrated marketer, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining a customer-first approach for community initiatives.
  • Comfort partnering with Product and Data Science to define usage quality, implement instrumentation, and hold teams accountable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders (e.g., Staff engineers to CIOs), and comfort with ambiguity and rapid building.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
  • Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running community or advocacy at a company with both PLG/self-serve and enterprise sales motions.
  • Experience building or leading recognized champions, ambassadors, or advocacy programs at a company known for its model.
  • Experience with developer tools, infrastructure, or AI products, and credibility with technical audiences.
  • Experience building the measurement infrastructure for a community function, including cohorting, attribution, and usage segmentation.
  • International experience establishing or scaling community in-region (EMEA, Japan/APAC) with a clear philosophy on central vs. local responsibilities.
  • A track record of building user trust through challenging moments in collaboration with a Comms team.
  • Background spanning more than one of: community, customer marketing, developer relations, customer education/enablement, or growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own the global community strategy and operating model, including audience thesis, program portfolio, and central vs. regional execution.
  • Lead, coach, and scale a global team of program and regional owners, hiring for gaps, setting standards, and developing community-native operators.
  • Define a measurement framework that moves beyond activity metrics, partnering with Product and Data Science to establish success metrics and segment users (non-user → occasional → high-value daily), with a focus on retained users and product adoption.
  • Build community across diverse audiences and seniority levels, tailoring programs and messaging without fragmenting the user experience.
  • Connect bottom-up adoption to enterprise expansion by architecting champion programs, train-the-trainer initiatives, and partner ecosystems that drive org-wide adoption and integrate with Sales and CS strategic account plans.
  • Consolidate training, certification, enablement, and community support into a scalable engine driven by champions and partners, creating a unified path for skill-building with Claude.
  • Partner closely with Brand and Comms to maintain healthy sentiment and awareness, defining community's role in Anthropic's brand and user support.
  • Proactively align community strategy with product direction, launches, and pricing & packaging, managing community's role pre-launch, at launch, and post-launch, and demonstrating its value to users.
