About The Position

Hera is creating a new profession in healthcare called the Hero, a dedicated care manager for families. Heroes educate, coordinate, and advocate for the most vulnerable populations, focusing on older adults with complex health needs, such as those recently discharged from the hospital, living with dementia, or managing multiple medications and specialists. The company is covered by insurance and aims to serve every family in America. The Head of Clinical role is responsible for defining and ensuring the delivery of great care at Hera, working closely with the founding team and a team from Palantir and Headway. The role is based in NYC.

Requirements

  • Physician (MD required).
  • Board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, or family medicine.
  • Serve as medical director of record from day one.
  • Hold an active, unrestricted license and be able to obtain licensure in additional states.
  • 7+ years of experience caring for complex, high-acuity patients (geriatrics preferred).
  • Deep understanding of hospital discharges, polypharmacy, dementia, and preventative care for this population.
  • 5+ years of experience leading clinical teams and owning outcomes.
  • Experience building care models, protocols, and oversight systems.
  • Experience managing clinicians and care teams at scale.
  • Ability to earn the trust of nurses and social workers.
  • Experience delivering care beyond the four walls (virtual, home-based, or hybrid care models).
  • Knowledge of maintaining clinical quality when care happens remotely.
  • Builder mentality, preferring to define rather than inherit a rubric.
  • Rigorous about what's working and obsessed with measurement.
  • Willingness to do the unglamorous work of getting details right.
  • Belief that software is a clinical tool and excitement about encoding clinical judgment into a product.
  • Ability to earn trust quickly from health system executives, geriatricians, and payers.
  • Based in NYC or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Define what great care means at Hera and ensure its delivery for every family.
  • Own the standard of worthy care, how it's measured, and how it's delivered.
  • See patients occasionally to stay close to the work of setting the standard of care.
  • Own the care model and run the care team, defining how Hera keeps clients safely at home and out of the hospital.
  • Deliver consistent great care across every Hero and ensure clinical oversight continues long past the first visit.
  • Set the standard for care and build systems to measure it in partnership with engineering and ops.
  • Act when the bar for care is not met.
  • Partner with the engineering team to encode clinical judgment directly into the AI platform to scale quality through software.
  • Define and shape a new category of care management.
  • Be the credible clinical voice with health system leaders and payers.
  • Turn Hera's care model into the industry's reference point.
  • Position Hera as the category creator in longitudinal care management.
