About The Position

The Head of Case Design is a working leader responsible for the quality, accuracy, and throughput of all proposals produced by the Case Design team. This role combines active, hands-on case work with team oversight, serving as the primary person for complex nonqualified plan designs, including supplemental executive retirement plans (SERPs), nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC), Employee Benefit Plan offsetting strategies, and Charitable Donation Account strategies and other AFA strategies. The Head of Case Design will work closely with advisors seeking guidance on plan structure and proposal strategy.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience in case design, executive benefits, or advanced nonqualified plan design within a financial services environment
  • Deep technical expertise in SERPs, nonqualified deferred compensation, and split-dollar life insurance arrangements

  • Familiarity with carrier illustration software and platforms
  • Experience in a high-growth, lean financial services environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team in a production or analytical environment
  • Strong understanding of executive benefit funding vehicles, including life insurance product mechanics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex plan designs clearly to advisors and clients
  • High attention to detail with a track record of producing accurate, client-ready deliverables under deadline

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day oversight, direction, and mentorship for the Case Design team, currently comprising four specialists
  • Review and approve all proposals, including annual reviews prepared by team members for accuracy and client-readiness
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex design questions and advisor inquiries
  • Monitor team workload and prioritize assignments to ensure timely delivery across all cases
  • Support the professional development of team members through regular feedback, coaching, and skills building
  • Maintain an active SERP caseload, developing and delivering proposals on a daily basis
  • Design various plan structures for nonqualified plan designs, including supplemental executive retirement plans (SERPs), nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC), Employee Benefit Plan offsetting strategies, Charitable Donation Account strategies and other AFA strategies
  • Collaborate with advisors and relationship managers to tailor case design to client-specific executive benefit or yield enhancement goals
  • Serve as a design matter expert for advisors navigating complex case scenarios
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with both internal stakeholders and external clients on case status, design rationale, and next steps
  • Establish and enforce quality standards for all case design output produced by the team
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase capacity and accuracy
  • Maintain organized case files, documentation, and tracking in alignment with AFA systems and protocols
