Head of Design
About The Position
As Head of Design at Ketryx, you'll lead a small, highly motivated team of UI/UX designers and own the design strategy for our platform. You'll set direction, ship high-quality designs, interactions, and prototypes, and steer projects from concept to launch. You'll work end-to-end on UI/UX — partnering closely with engineers, product managers, and executive leadership to ensure designs are intuitive, technically sound, and aligned with business goals. You'll lead the team while staying hands-on: creating UX flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals yourself. Your work will directly support Ketryx's mission to help medical device manufacturers bring life-saving innovations to market faster and more safely. This is a hybrid role requiring at least four days per week on-site in Vienna or Boston, with regular travel between the two offices.
Requirements
- 8+ years of industry experience designing software user interfaces and workflows
- Prior experience managing a team of designers
- Prior experience with designing web apps and design systems
- Ability to quickly demonstrate product knowledge
- Ability to think through complex interaction design
- Hands-on UI and UX design work
- Experience with prototyping in Figma and with AI
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in a regulated industry
- Degree in design or user experience
Responsibilities
- Managing and growing a team of designers and design projects
- Collaborate closely with product managers and developers to shape features
- Develop features from concept through prototype to developer handoff
- Meet with users virtually and in person for discovery work and design reviews
- Regular travel between Boston and Vienna (approx. 1 week every 6 weeks)
