We're looking for a Head of Development to lead Ambrosia's portfolio of behind-the-meter solar and battery storage projects co-located with next-generation AI data center campuses. You'll own the project lifecycle end to end, from site screening and financial feasibility through interconnection, permitting, and technical customer scoping, all the way to Notice to Proceed. Ambrosia is starting exclusively behind-the-meter, so near-term interconnection work is about the technical interface with a customer's on-site electrical infrastructure, not utility-scale grid interconnection. If and when Ambrosia expands into front-of-the-meter, grid-interconnected assets, this role will grow into owning that utility and ISO/RTO interconnection process as well. You'll build the playbook, and as the team scales, the team itself. Given the extreme power densities and 24/7 reliability requirements of AI infrastructure, you'll help drive the technical and commercial aspects of Ambrosia's customer deals, supporting customer conversations, solving complex utility and on-site interconnection challenges, structuring technically sound deals, and presenting fully vetted projects to our leadership team for investment decisions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, though not required in a specific field; we care more about a demonstrated track record in project development, financial modeling, and deal negotiation than the field of study.
Finance, engineering, business, or a quantitative discipline is a plus, and an MBA or advanced technical degree is a further plus.
5+ years of progressive experience in renewable energy project development, with a track record of bringing at least 500 MW of US solar or battery storage projects to Notice to Proceed or commercial operation.
Experience developing energy projects for critical infrastructure, large-scale industrial plants, or digital infrastructure campuses preferred.
Advanced proficiency building and maintaining Excel-based project financial models for high-density commercial and industrial, behind-the-meter solar, storage, or microgrid economics.
Comfortable engaging directly with customer teams in a supporting capacity, including Q&A, technical scoping, and contract and performance follow-through.
Experience pitching multi-million dollar projects directly to senior leadership or investment decision-makers.

Nice To Haves

Comfortable evaluating inorganic opportunities, such as land or late-stage project acquisitions, as a complement to organic site development, though this is not a day-one expectation.
Demonstrated experience owning the technical interconnection between generation and storage assets and a customer's on-site electrical infrastructure; utility-scale grid interconnection experience, including ISO/RTO queues and interconnection agreements, is a plus today and will become increasingly important if Ambrosia expands beyond behind-the-meter.
Familiarity with utility tariff structures and the regulatory and tax considerations that affect behind-the-meter project economics, such as rate design, property tax abatements, and economic development incentives.
Experience managing or mentoring a development or project finance team is a plus, though comfort operating as a senior individual contributor in year one is essential.

Responsibilities

Support data-driven site identification for behind-the-meter deployments, evaluating land and site suitability, local utility tariff structures, and site-level constraints using GIS and spatial analysis tools.
Partner with Ambrosia's land and site-selection consulting firm on site leases, easements, and landlord-tenant agreements, providing the energy and project-development-specific context a generalist land consultant won't have, and shape site criteria and validate technical fit.
Work with Ambrosia's engineering team to build the technical interconnection between our generation and storage assets and a customer's on-site electrical infrastructure, including substation interfaces, switchgear capacity, and site electrical design, and guide the site-level permitting strategy (zoning, environmental, and fire and electrical code approvals for battery storage, including NFPA 855 and NEC/NFPA 70) to validate feasibility, keep projects on schedule, and shape deal terms.
Track regulatory and market shifts, and build toward front-of-the-meter, utility-scale grid interconnection capability, including ISO/RTO queue management, interconnection agreements, and utility negotiation, as Ambrosia expands beyond behind-the-meter.
Own and build project financial models to evaluate IRR, NPV, and cash flows for individual assets and site portfolios, continuously validating inputs such as EPC capital costs, real estate costs, manufacturing and engineering complexity, interconnection costs, and data center host tariff structures.
Model the behind-the-meter value streams that matter most to data center hosts, including power reliability and resiliency, demand charge management, and peak shaving, sized to each host's tariff structure and criticality requirements.
Translate project data and risk profiles into clear business cases, and present development and capital deployment milestones and investment recommendations to Ambrosia's leadership team.
Provide critical support to customer conversations led by Ambrosia's leadership team, handling technical, regulatory, and financial Q&A and feasibility scoping to keep deals moving.
Drive Ambrosia's technical responses to customer RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs, partnering with leadership on positioning and pricing.
Support contract negotiation led by Ambrosia's leadership team, owning the technical contract exhibits (capacity commitments, performance guarantees, interconnection and delivery milestones, technical specifications), contributing strategic input on business terms, and tracking project performance and delivery against those commitments after signature.
As the pipeline grows, help recruit, mentor, and build a team of project developers, financial analysts, and real estate specialists.
