About The Position

The Head of Business Data is the executive leader responsible for the quality and utilization of Technology, Data & Operations (TD&O) data across the business unit. This role has end-to-end accountability for TD&O data, encompassing authoritative sources, certification, lineage, and consumption, including business data governance, data management, reporting, and analytics. The leader ensures TD&O's compliance with enterprise data governance policies, including data ownership, stewardship, identification of critical data elements, quality measurement, and issue resolution. This role partners with Chief Data Governance Officers, the Chief Divisional Technology, Data, and Operations Officer, and other division leaders to align the business strategy with the enterprise data strategy. A key aspect of this role is ensuring TD&O operations can rely on trustworthy data. The leader also directs the use of TD&O data to provide management insights into performance and operations, fostering an advanced analytics capability to transform data into rapid, decision-grade insights. Preparing TD&O data for AI and agentic use, ensuring it is certified and well-governed, is central to this role, adhering to all data management and AI governance requirements. This is a senior leadership position responsible for the TD&O data organization, including hiring, team development, fostering a delivery culture, and cross-functional execution. The Head of Business Data represents TD&O in executive forums and senior committees, influencing and negotiating across technology and business teams.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, analytics, data engineering, finance, or equivalent.
  • Fifteen years of data management experience, including driving enterprise data strategy, data execution, data engineering, or software delivery.
  • Expert problem-solving skills and ability to define detailed strategies.
  • Experience in the financial services or payments industry.
  • Experience in meeting regulatory obligations and operating in a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience partnering with C-Level executives to accomplish business objectives.

  • Experience owning data end-to-end, from authoritative source through certification, lineage, quality measurement, and consumption, including operational data such as application inventories, configuration management, entitlements, and incident and change records.
  • Experience building advanced and nimble business analytics capabilities that deliver rapid, decision-grade insight to executive leadership and support regulatory and board reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the business unit/corporate functions (BU/CF) data & analytics strategy and roadmap, coordinating with key executives to align with business vision and priorities.
  • Partner with C-Level executive business leaders to transform the business through data-driven decision-making and enabling data analytics to re-engineer processes.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Data Governance Officer to align BU/CF roadmap with data governance priorities, roadmap, and risk/regulatory commitments.
  • Provide regular updates to C-Level BU/CF executives and business unit committees regarding progress on key business initiatives and data risk.
  • Drive accountability within the BU/CF for data ownership and sound data management practices, partnering with business leaders to resolve data issues.
  • Own and maintain the BU/CF inventory of data critical business processes and partner with process owners to drive adherence to governance requirements.
  • Oversee business data stewards and partner across the company to implement and sustain data governance requirements.
  • Oversee implementation of the enterprise data strategy within the BU/CF, partnering with business leaders to drive modernization efforts, AI enablement, and consumption of data from governed sources.
  • Manage and execute innovation across data analytics, data science (AI/ML), reporting, and modeling.
  • Partner with the AI & Data Office to define target state tools, solutions, and capabilities to execute the business strategy.
  • Partner across Truist to achieve business unit data strategy and roadmap objectives, bringing best-in-class industry practices to improve people, process, and technology.
  • Manage the business analytics, data science, data stewards, and reporting teams, which can span 50-200 teammates.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging industry practices and technologies and introduce them to Truist.
