Head of Business Data - Technology, Data, & Operations
About The Position
The Head of Business Data is the executive leader responsible for the quality of Technology, Data & Operations (TD&O) data and how that data is used across the business unit. The role has end-to-end responsibility for TD&O data, from authoritative source through certification and lineage to consumption, including business data governance, data management, reporting, and analytics. The leader oversees TD&O's adherence to enterprise data governance policy, including data ownership and accountability, business data stewardship, inventories of data-critical business processes, critical data element identification and quality measurement, and resolution of data issues. The role is accountable to governance requirements established by the Chief Data Governance Officer and partners with Business Unit/Corporate Functions CDOs, the Chief Divisional Technology, Data, and Operations Officer, and division leaders to align business strategy with enterprise data strategy. The role directs how TD&O uses data to provide management insight into performance and operations, including analytics, data science, modeling, reporting, and innovation. Preparing TD&O data for AI and agentic use is central to the position, with certified and well-governed data serving as the basis for AI consumption in accordance with data management and AI governance requirements. This senior leadership position leads the TD&O data organization, including hiring, team development, delivery culture, and cross-functional execution. It represents TD&O in executive forums and senior committees and partners, negotiates, and influences across technology and business teams. The organization may span 50–200 teammates across business analytics, data science, data stewardship, and reporting.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, analytics, data engineering, finance, or an equivalent degree.
- Fifteen years of data management experience, including enterprise data strategy, data execution, data engineering, or software delivery.
- Expert problem-solving skills and ability to define detailed strategies.
- Experience in the financial services or payments industry.
- Experience meeting regulatory obligations and operating in a highly regulated environment.
- Experience partnering with C-level executives to accomplish business objectives.

- Experience owning data end to end, from authoritative source through certification, lineage, quality measurement, and consumption, including operational data such as application inventories, configuration management, entitlements, and incident and change records.
- Experience building advanced, nimble business analytics capabilities that provide rapid, decision-grade executive insight and support regulatory and board reporting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the BU/CF data and analytics strategy and roadmap, coordinating with the Chief Business Execution & Risk Officer, BU/CF CDO, and Chief Divisional Technology, Data, and Operations Officer.
- Partner with C-level business executives to foster data-driven decision-making and use analytics to re-engineer processes and grow and sustain the business.
- Coordinate with the Chief Data Governance Officer to align the BU/CF roadmap with data governance priorities, risk and regulatory commitments.
- Provide regular updates to C-level BU/CF executives and business unit committees on progress across key business initiatives and data risk relative to risk appetite.
- Drive accountability for data ownership and sound data management practices, partnering with business leaders to resolve open data issues and sub-issues.
- Own and maintain the BU/CF inventory of data-critical business processes and work with process owners to meet governance requirements.
- Oversee business data stewards and partner across the company to implement and sustain governance requirements for data-critical processes and critical data elements.
- Oversee implementation of the enterprise data strategy within the BU/CF and partner with business leaders on modernization, AI enablement, and consumption of data from governed sources.
- Manage and execute innovation across data analytics, data science (AI/ML), reporting, and modeling.
- Partner with the AI & Data Office to define target-state tools, solutions, and capabilities for executing the business strategy.
- Partner across Truist to achieve business-unit data strategy and roadmap objectives and apply industry practices to improve people, process, and technology.
- Manage business analytics, data science, data stewardship, and reporting teams that may span 50–200 teammates.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging industry practices and technologies and bring relevant practices to Truist.
- Lead the TD&O data organization, including hiring, team development, delivery culture, and cross-functional execution.
- Represent TD&O in executive forums and senior committees, partnering, negotiating, and influencing across technology and business teams.
