Head of Agentic Revolution

Venice.ai•Sheridan, WY

About The Position

Venice is hiring a Principal Applied AI Engineer to build and own the company’s internal AI agent platform. The platform will let teams across Venice create, deploy, and manage agents that increase their output, including non-engineering teams such as marketing, support, communications, operations, and finance. This is initially a solo individual-contributor role reporting directly to Co-Founder Jesse Proudman, with a path to building and leading a team as the company grows. The role covers deciding what to build in-house versus which commercial agent platforms and frameworks to use, provided they can run on Venice’s inference. The platform should use Venice’s inference API and models, with Venice serving as its first customer. A central design requirement is protecting company data: agents should run on Venice’s infrastructure, keep data within controlled boundaries, and use access controls to prevent cross-department leakage. The successful candidate will make the platform usable for non-engineers through clear abstractions, sensible defaults, documentation, and a user experience that makes agent creation accessible without sacrificing capability. They will work directly with teams to understand workflows, measure platform impact, and improve quality, latency, and cost. The role also includes educating colleagues through workshops, internal documentation, and demonstrations.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building production software systems.
  • Fluency in at least two of Rust, TypeScript, Go, and Python, and comfort learning the others; Venice’s preferred order is Rust, TypeScript, Go, then Python.
  • Experience with distributed systems, API design, data pipelines, and reliable operation at scale.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM and agent systems in production, including LLM APIs, agent orchestration, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt design, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Experience taking agent systems from prototype to production and addressing hallucinations, latency, cost, context limits, and edge cases.
  • A platform engineering mindset, with attention to useful abstractions, developer experience, and making complex capabilities simple for others to use.
  • Comfort making architectural decisions in a novel, ambiguous space without established best practices and adjusting direction as new information emerges.
  • Understanding of privacy as a system design problem, including controlled data boundaries, access controls, data classification, and confidentiality tradeoffs.
  • Ability to build products for non-technical users, communicate clearly without jargon, teach, and encourage adoption.
  • Experience with agent orchestration frameworks and custom-built tooling, with the judgment to choose between building and using existing solutions.
  • A bias toward fast prototyping, shipping, measuring, and iterating in production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship foundational infrastructure for teams to create, deploy, and manage AI agents, including agent templates, shared tool libraries, retrieval systems, orchestration patterns, evaluation pipelines, and no-code abstractions.
  • Evaluate commercial agent platforms, frameworks, and tools, and decide when to use them or build custom solutions.
  • Ensure the internal agent platform runs on Venice’s inference API and models, using internal deployment to identify and address product needs and edge cases.
  • Architect privacy protections so agents use Venice’s inference, company data stays within Venice’s infrastructure, and access controls prevent cross-department data leakage.
  • Make the platform accessible to non-engineers through clear abstractions, sensible defaults, documentation, and a usable experience.
  • Partner with marketing, support, operations, finance, and other teams to understand their workflows and build platform capabilities that address their needs.
  • Measure the platform’s impact, use production traces and evaluations to guide design, optimize quality, latency, and cost, and demonstrate its return on investment.
  • Educate and promote adoption among non-engineering teams through workshops, internal documentation, and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
