About The Position

The Parks and Recreations Department is looking for a Head Lifeguard to join their team. This role involves observing patron activities in the public pool and adjoining areas, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and administering first aid, CPR, and water rescue as needed. The Head Lifeguard will also provide supervision and direction to Lifeguards and Slide Attendants. This position requires adherence to emergency action plans and established procedures, monitoring the pool to prevent accidents, and maintaining order. Responsibilities include checking and adjusting pool chemistry, assisting with system repairs and maintenance, providing information on pool operations, and potentially instructing aquatics programs. The role also emphasizes courteous and cooperative behavior, maintaining confidentiality, and performing other duties as assigned. The job description is subject to change.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience as a lifeguard, preferably which includes supervisory experience
  • Lifeguard Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
  • Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance; swimming pool sanitation and chlorine systems.
  • Knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedures including first aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective project management, leadership, supervision, and training.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Skills in administering first aid and CPR.
  • Skills in enforcing procedures and rules.
  • Must meet physical requirements set in Lifeguard Certification training.
  • Required to work nights and weekends as a routine schedule.
  • Required to work unsupervised in the presence of children or vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors activities at pool to prevent accidents and incidents; follows emergency action plans and established procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; maintains order at pool and adjoining areas; rescues swimmers at risk; administers first aid as necessary.
  • Supervises, directs, schedules, and assigns tasks to Lifeguards and Slide Attendants.
  • Checks and adjusts chemistry of all pools; assists with systems repairs and preventative maintenance as required.
  • Provides general information on pool operations and protocols to patrons.
  • May assist in instructing aquatics programs.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
