About The Position

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for overseeing all golf services and operations, including purchasing, cart maintenance, tee-time reservations, and enforcing golf course rules. This role involves managing staff, developing budgets and business plans, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience. The position also includes managing a profitable merchandise concession, overseeing inventories, implementing financial controls, and promoting staff development. The Head Golf Professional is expected to think innovatively, maintain competitive golf skills, and provide instruction.

Requirements

  • PGA member for at least 3 years.
  • 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Training and supervision of staff skills.
  • Fiscal experience.
  • Tournament organization skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead staff.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • PGA PGM Completion (or business school) required.
  • Must be able to motivate and lead staff.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of experience in the business (under P.G.A. requirements) preferred.
  • PGA seminars preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and supervise assistant golf professionals, outside staff, and shop staff.
  • Complete employee evaluations and coordinate processes with Human Resources.
  • Implement company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Schedule regular staff meetings.
  • Oversee all golf services and operations, including purchasing, cart maintenance, and tee-time reservations.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage.
  • Coordinate golf operations with the Golf Course Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Review and report financial variances.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and business plan in coordination with the VP of Golf.
  • Develop and manage an innovative tournament program.
  • Maintain and oversee a profitable merchandise concession.
  • Establish retail sales goals and forecasts with the Director of Retail.
  • Monitor and analyze retail reports.
  • Supervise physical inventories and the display of merchandise.
  • Assist in the development of systems to safeguard inventories.
  • Implement cash and systems controls.
  • Oversee and approve weekly golf staff time sheets, payroll, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports required by the VP of Golf.
  • Oversee, monitor, and promote the development of assistant golf professionals in the PGA PGM program.
  • Present new operational ideas to the VP of Golf.
  • Work closely with lodge partners to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
  • Update Bulletin Boards with current information.
  • Play with membership and maintain competitive level golf skills.
  • Instruct Jr. Clinics and other clinics as necessary.
  • Actively demonstrate, encourage, train, and model safety rules and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate and document safety training and orientation for all employees.
  • Investigate loss producing incidents and review prevention recommendations with all employees.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety every day.
