About The Position

The Head Golf Professional is responsible for overseeing all golf services and operations, including purchasing, cart maintenance, tee-time reservations, and managing play. This role involves developing and managing an annual operating budget and business plan, creating an innovative tournament program, and overseeing a profitable merchandise concession. The Head Golf Professional also supervises staff, ensures adherence to company policies, and works closely with other departments and lodge partners to provide an exceptional guest experience. Additionally, the role requires maintaining competitive golf skills, playing with members, and instructing clinics.

Requirements

  • PGA member for at least 3 years.
  • 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Training and supervision of staff skills.
  • Fiscal experience.
  • Tournament organization skills.
  • PGA PGM Completion (or business school) required.
  • Must be able to motivate and lead staff.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of experience in the business (under P.G.A. requirements) preferred.
  • PGA seminars preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, and supervising assistant golf professionals, outside staff, and shop staff.
  • Completing employee evaluations and coordinating processes with Human Resources.
  • Implementing company and departmental policies and procedures and scheduling staff meetings.
  • Overseeing all golf services and operations, including purchasing, cart maintenance, tee-time reservations, and monitoring play.
  • Enforcing rules and regulations for golf course usage.
  • Coordinating golf operations with the Golf Course Maintenance Department and maintaining a relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Reviewing and reporting financial variances.
  • Developing the annual operating budget and business plan in coordination with the VP of Golf.
  • Developing and managing an innovative tournament program for all customer segments.
  • Maintaining and overseeing a profitable merchandise concession in coordination with the Director of Retail.
  • Establishing retail sales goals and forecasts with the Director of Retail, and monitoring/analyzing reports.
  • Supervising physical inventories, merchandise display, and implementing systems to safeguard inventories.
  • Implementing cash and systems controls to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory, and resources.
  • Overseeing and approving weekly golf staff time sheets, payroll, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Overseeing the preparation of reports required by the VP of Golf.
  • Overseeing, monitoring, and promoting the development of assistant golf professionals in the PGA PGM program.
  • Thinking innovatively regarding day-to-day operations and presenting new operational ideas to the VP of Golf.
  • Working closely with lodge partners to ensure an exceptional experience for all guests.
  • Updating Bulletin Boards with current information.
  • Playing with membership and maintaining competitive level golf skills.
  • Instructing Jr. Clinics and other clinics as necessary.
  • Actively demonstrating, encouraging, training, and modeling safety rules and guidelines.
  • Demonstrating and documenting safety training and orientation for all employees.
  • Investigating loss producing incidents and reviewing prevention recommendations with all employees.
  • Taking personal responsibility for safety every day.
