About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of school buildings and grounds. The Head Custodian I oversees and participates in the work of custodians, ensuring a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for students and staff. This role involves a comprehensive understanding of cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and basic maintenance tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Three (3) years of custodial or janitorial experience.
Experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

Supervisory experience in a school or institutional setting.
Knowledge of basic building maintenance and repair.
Experience with floor care equipment (e.g., buffers, scrubbers).

Responsibilities

Supervise and direct the work of custodial staff.
Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
Maintain restrooms, including cleaning fixtures, restocking supplies, and ensuring sanitation.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the facility.
Clean windows, floors, and walls.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.
Ensure the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Respond to emergency cleaning needs.
Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of school grounds, including sidewalks and parking lots.
Report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
Assist with setting up and taking down furniture for school events.
Follow all safety regulations and procedures.
