About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of school facilities. The Head Custodian I will oversee custodial operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for students and staff. This role involves direct supervision of custodial staff and coordination with school administration.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three (3) years of work history, including periods of unemployment, schooling, and volunteer work.
• Experience in custodial or janitorial services.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
• Basic understanding of building maintenance and repair.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to attach required documents at the time of application.

Nice To Haves

• Previous supervisory experience.
• Experience in a school or institutional setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Maintain restrooms, including cleaning fixtures, restocking supplies, and ensuring hygiene standards.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the facility.
• Perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed, such as changing light bulbs or fixing leaky faucets.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and machinery.
• Ensure the security of the building by locking doors and windows at the end of the day.
• Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Supervise and direct the work of other custodial staff.
• Coordinate with school administration on cleaning schedules and special event needs.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and request reorders as necessary.
