About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of a school building and grounds. The Head Custodian I will oversee and direct the work of custodians, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for students and staff. This role involves a range of duties from routine cleaning to minor repairs and groundskeeping.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Three (3) years of custodial or maintenance experience.
Ability to perform physical tasks associated with cleaning and maintenance.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures.
Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
Basic understanding of building maintenance and repair.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver's license may be required.

Nice To Haves

Previous supervisory experience.
Experience in a school or institutional setting.

Responsibilities

Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles.
Wash windows and interior glass.
Perform minor repairs to building fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
Maintain grounds by mowing, trimming, and removing debris.
Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
Supervise and direct the work of other custodial staff.
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Respond to emergency cleaning or maintenance needs.
