About The Position

The Head Coach Women's Basketball is responsible for the overall management and success of the collegiate sports program. This includes recruiting, scheduling, fundraising, and coaching all home and away games. The coach is expected to maintain discipline, increase morale and cooperation, and teach sports techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics. They will supervise and conduct practices and contests safely, oversee locker rooms and transportation, and work closely with the Athletic Director on program matters. Additionally, the coach will condition athletes for endurance, strength, and agility, instruct team members and coaches on rules, and assist in planning and implementing conditioning and weight programs.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of all athletics policies approved by the NJCM, OCCAC and Owens Community College
  • Understand FERPA and the proper administrative line of command and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Knowledge and background in basketball rules and regulations.
  • Accountable for personal actions on and off campus properties.
  • Arrives early enough before practices, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with other coaching staff or any staff member within ears or eyes of players, parents, or fans.
  • Strives to improve skills by attending clinics.
  • Associates degree
  • Previous coaching experience in Basketball at the intercollegiate level required.
  • Previous intercollegiate basketball playing experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no driving restrictions.
  • Must have an acceptable criminal background check through BCII.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, scheduling, fundraising and coaching all home and away games.
  • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the collegiate sports program.
  • Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics.
  • Supervises and conducts practices and contests safely, supervises locker rooms and transportation.
  • Works directly with the Athletic Director notifying him/her of potential problems/awards, etc.
  • Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility.
  • Instruct team members and coaches about rules and changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport.
  • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
